Lover Awakened Black Dagger Brotherhood Book 3 edition by JR Ward Paranormal Romance eBooks Reviews

  • I’m a new fan of the BDB series and I loved Rhage and Mary’s story! He is cursed for what seems like an eternity and is a lonely, misunderstood character. He is destined to live with a barely controlled monster and avoids intimacy lest the monster within is unleashed.

“And tonight? You’re going home to Wellsie. I’m going home alone. Just like I did yesterday. Just like I’m going to do the day after. The whoring isn’t fun for me, and it’s been killing me for years, so please give it a rest, dig?”

Mary is also lonely and suffering from a serious illness. She doesn’t consider herself anything special but she attracts the attention of Rhage. He’s immediately attracted to her but their relationship slowly builds and is incredibly sexy and loving.

Rhage shivered, a balmy rush blooming out all over his skin. The musical lilt of her voice, the rhythm of her speech, the sound of her words, it all spread through him, calming him, comforting him. Chaining him sweetly. He closed his eyes. “Say something else.” “What?” she asked, baffled. “Talk. Talk to me. I want to hear your voice again.”

This is a witty, sexy and action-packed paranormal romance that is perfect for fans of Alpha heroes and hot romance. I’m not sure why I liked this book so much but everything just clicked. And bonus, this is really two love stories in one. Zsadist and Bella begin their story here and I must say I can’t wait to read their book.

There’s lot of back-and-forth here between Rhage and Mary. He’s afraid of harming her and she’s sure that Rhage could never be interested in someone like her.

“There was absolutely nothing about her that courted notice. She wasn’t anything like the females he went for. And she held his attention like a marching band. “Hello, Mary,” he said softly.

I can’t imagine another character in this series with depth of the warrior Rhage. I loved his unwavering loyalty to the Brotherhood and the lengths he would go to for Mary. Even if you’re not a fan of paranormal romance, this story is fantastic and inventive and thoroughly engaging. It’s unexpectedly funny and very, very sexy. Lucky for me that I have the whole series on my ! All the praise to J.R. Ward for writing a very different and very memorable paranormal romance.
  • More than ten years ago, I read this book and loved it from the start. Two days ago I bought the Kindie edition, and it's even better than I remembered. When I went to the reviews, I noticed that they are all ten years old. I think that this new edition deserves a fresh review - what do you think? JR Ward's Black Dagger Brotherhood is the best vampire series that I've ever read, and I've read a lot of them. The Brothers are heroes larger than life, and yet each one of them is flawed in some way. The King, Wrath, is blind. This story is about Rhage, who once lacked control over himself, and who was cursed by the Scribe Virgin for causing the death of her sacred white owl. He's spent almost a hundred years sharing his body with a dragon, and every time he fails to control his rage, the dragon is set free to destroy everyone around him. The only leash that restrains the creature is fighting or sex, and as much as he loves to fight his race's enemies, having sex with strangers and never finding his mate torments him. Then he meets Mary, a human woman, dying of cancer. And even though he should only bond with a vampire, this fragile woman with the courage of a warrior, is the mate that his heart wants. This is the love story that proves the rare talent that Ward has for amazing adventures is equaled by her gift for giving us a pair of miss-matched lovers - lovers who bring us as many tears as they do fits of laugher, and an adventure you will never forget. If you can, read Dark Lover first to get all of the back-story, but don't miss out on this one. I promise you will never forget it.

  • I'm rereading some of the books of the Black Dagger Brotherhood, a series of warrior vampires whose jobs are to protect civilian vampires and humans. I don't know why I stopped after reading four. Out of the three that I've reread, it's hard to chose a favorite. I do have special empathy for Zsadist and couldn't remember if he and Bella got a HEA or not. So, it was interesting to find out what happened. I love how the books build on each other. You are left with questions but none, so far, are cliffhangers.

Each book so far reminded me why I was willing to pay $7.99 for an e-book that was published 5 years before I first read them. The characters are well developed. You are given enough background to understand the characters' names and their personalities. Their names perfectly fit them. The books are full of drama, intrigue, action and danger. For a series on vampires, the sex is not overly erotic, graphic or descriptive as are other paranormal books, especially shifter books. They're not YA but are not close to soft porn. The sex adds to each vampire's storyline but does not overpower the story. Some aspects of the sex may disturb some folks. Even if you skip the pages with sex, you still have a complete and satisfying book.

The books are not perfect but are pretty well written. They are read for their entertainment value not for information on vsmpires. Hiwever, they are different enough from other vampire books to hold your interest. I could do without the slang but it's not enough to distract from reading, as are some paranormal books filled with grammatical errors.

The books leave you wanting more but are fairly fulfilling. You are left with questions that hopefully will be answered in other books. However, there's nothing that keeps you from putting down the books. I'd like to know if Torhment and/or Wellsie will show up in other books? When will Darius appear in future books and what is his warrior name? In what book does John transition into Terhror, or does he? Do all the warriors find their mates? How will the other warriors interact with Bella's brother Rehvenge since Zsadist knows his real profession? Small Spoiler Why did Vishous cause Butch to inadvertently drink vampire warrior blood? End of Spoiler.. Questions, not cliffhangers. Can't wait to read the next two in the series. Will I continue reading the series or stop as I did before? I will at least read five, one more than I did before.
